Our Procedures
Cosmetic and General Dentistry
It’s great news that the incidence of tooth decay has significantly diminished over the years due to the use of fluorides and an increase in patient awareness. However, teeth are still susceptible to decay, infection and breakage and sometimes need to be restored back to health. Through improved techniques and modern technology, we are now able to offer more options for restoring a tooth back to its normal shape, appearance and function which in the end provides you with optimum oral health.
Should your teeth ever require restorative treatment, you can rest assured that we will always discuss the available options with you and recommend what we believe to be the most comfortable and least invasive treatment. Providing you with excellent care is our number one priority when creating your beautiful smile.
WHITENING
Having a beautiful bright, natural smile is something we can help you attain.
Research Triangle Dental offers two options for achieving that beautiful, white smile:
- Professional At-Home Whitening with your own custom trays
We will make custom whitening trays to fit your teeth. You will be provided with whitening material and clear instructions on proper use. You can easily achieve the bright white smile you’ve dreamed of in as little as 14 days or nights of wear time. Once you build up to your perfect shade, you can "touch up" as you see fit.
- Zoom In-Office Whitening System (Instant gratification)
Zoom Whitening is performed in the office by a Dental Professional. The procedure takes a little under 2 hours and you will leave with a bright, dazzling smile. We use the Zoom light to activate the innovative tooth whitening material in a series of "sessions". If you have always dreamed of a stunning smile comprised of healthy, bright teeth, contact Research Triangle Dental today so you can show off your new radiant smile tomorrow.
LUMINEERS
With dental veneers on your front teeth you can have a beautiful smile that is long lasting, pleasant, and painless. One of our preferred choices is LUMINEERS, a brand of veneers proven to last up to or over 20 years. With LUMINEERS there can sometimes be little or no cutting down of your natural teeth because they can be made thinner than traditional veneers, often as thin as contact lenses. LUMINEERS are made of the strongest leucite-reinforced ceramic porcelain so are built to last. Dr. Doug Macmillan and Dr. Angel Lopez are our LUMINEERS-certified doctors and can provide a one-on-one consultation to help you achieve the smile of your dreams. Contact our office today for more information about LUMINEERS and get on the way to a beautiful smile.

TOOTH COLORED RESTORATIONS
Tooth colored white fillings are an attractive alternative to traditional metal fillings. They do not stand out visually like metal fillings, but match your teeth and are virtually undetectable. The material is a white, durable resin which comes in subtly different shades so your Doctor can choose the shade(s) which best matches your natural teeth.
A big advantage of white fillings is that they contain no mercury. There is controversy around the possibility that mercury in tooth fillings could be related to health issues, but no controversy around the fact that some of the mercury when used in association with metallic fillings can reach our environment. We choose to offer only composite resin tooth colored filling material with no mercury. They are bonded to the tooth, which can strengthen the tooth, holding it together, and prolonging its life.
Tooth colored white fillings are done in one visit and you are free to eat and drink immediately following your procedure. Please contact our Patient Care Specialist for more information on tooth colored restorations.
CROWNS
A crown is a dental restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to it’s normal shape, size, and function.
Situations which may call for a crown include:
- Restore a tooth when there isn’t enough tooth remaining to provide support for a large filling
- Support for a bridge to replace missing teeth
- Protect a tooth weakened by large, deteriorating, old fillings
- Restore a broken tooth
- Cover a badly shaped or discolored tooth
- Cover a dental implant
Your crown appointment will typically consist of two appointments. The first appointment is to prepare the tooth for the crown. Impressions will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory to create your custom crown. A temporary crown will be placed on the prepared tooth while the final crown is being made. The second appointment is to place the crown in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments so you and your Dentist are satisfied with how it looks and feels when permanently placed.
